I first got involved with farm work because I wanted easy access to organic vegetables, but I didn't realise how many other benefits it would have!
The lifestyle is as close to 'human living' as you can get - from getting up at dawn, working with your hands and the soil all day, breathing fresh air and catching the sunshine, to eating full fresh meals made from produce you've grown yourself, socialising with other farmers, and not having to worry for a single second about what you look like!
Even if you only get an occasional chance, I'd really recommend finding a way to touch the soil and feel connected to nature.
You can search for allotments in your area, or 'farming experience' days nearby.
You can also check out the WWOOF website in your country if you want a longer-term experience: http://www.wwoof.net/
Farm work is varied, so there are tasks people of all physical abilities, the elderly, and children.
Unfortunately most of us live in urban areas far away from opportunities to work on the fields.
